West Africa Subregional Meeting

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, November 2008

In November 2008, the Roll Back Malaria Partnership, World Health Organization, and PATH MVI collaborated to organize a West African subregional meeting. Representatives from the immunization and malaria fields of seventeen African countries reviewed the data and processes described in the Decision-Making Framework (DMF) and validated the DMF as a tool to plan ahead for a decision on malaria vaccine introduction in the subregion. The participants agreed on recommendations for MVI to conduct advocacy with national authorities for adherence to the DMF, develop a utilization document for DMF implementation, and make the final framework available; for MVI and its partners to provide technical and financial support for data collection; and for the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) and Expanded Programme for Immunization (EPI) of each country to conduct advocacy with national stakeholders for the DMF's use in decision-making.
